Life's Simple Pleasures - Afternoon Coffee

Light blue feathers of flame in the gas range.

The tarnished and warm and well-loved kettle
rumbling with near-boiling water.
(No percolator for me; it has been banished to the garage for being dank and difficult to clean.)

The long 5-minute wait for the coffee to steep in the French Press.

Foaming hot coffee poured into a colorful mug,
a gift from my thoughtful young friend.

All these pieces culminate in afternoon coffee;
Sometimes a simple necessity to make my afternoon work for me;
it's also a simple pleasure.

  1. Several people are on the same page today, with coffee posts. As for me, I can't think of a time of day when I wouldn't welcome a good cup of coffee. It may be full of caffeine, but, ironically, it has a way of calming me.

    Great simple pleasures post. So glad you joined us.

  2. Mmmm...coffee ♥ I've not visited too many, but those that I have (as Dayle said), shared a similar pleasure. Coffee, it does create such a warmth, a feeling of home-almost, doesn't it?

  3. I noticed a coffee theme too! Of course, since coffee is always lingering at the top of my list, that's just fine with me.

  4. I don't drink coffee but I do love the aroma! And I love your photo-a kettle boiling on a stove is always such a cosy homely pleasure:-) blessings..Trish

  5. I love/hate waiting the 5 minutes for my coffee to steep! It's kind of like being a kid on Christmas morning, waiting for the rest of the house to wake up. Ha!

    I will enjoy a cup with you this afternoon.
