If it weren't enough that we miraculously have this beautiful little girl in our family, we are also so aware of the presence of God in our daily life--because we need Him.
Here are a few examples of heavenly intervention when nothing we could do would be sufficient:
On our 2nd day home from the hospital, Elizabeth had not had a bowel movement in almost 24 hours. Possibly over, but we couldn't remember. So we prayed. Sam was holding her about an hour later when he heard what sounded "like a gunshot" coming from her tush. There it was.
We've been having some difficulty with her latching on to nurse, and without going into all of it, one evening we were sitting there struggling, and Sam felt led to command her to latch on. Next thing we knew, she was nursing happily. It's still not smooth sailing in this regard, but we're still working on it and she's doing just fine.
With the arrival of a daughter we are also very aware of how not in control of our lives we actually are, and how the only way to live is with our lives thrown on the mercy and faithfulness of God.

Happy New Year - A Quick Update

Stick with it. It takes awhile to get the hang of it. Those first weeks are tough, and it's easy to get frustrated esp w/ so little sleep. We'll be praying for you. You are doing great Mama!

With each of my daughter's children's births....MY GRANDBABIES....she went back to a lactation consultant...even though she always nursed her babies for over a year, she always found it to be helpful in getting new babies to latch on properly and having a good feed. Maybe they have one near you that you could visit. Just a thot.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new baby!! It is wounderful that you are seeing where God is at work. I could only nurse for about two weeks, before I went to the formula. It was so hard, I felt so bad.
