If God has given us everything we need for life and godliness, as the word says in 1 Peter 1:3, then God has given us the strength to do everything He has ever asked us to do. We just need the will to obey in the strength He has given. Then I found the online version of "My Utmost for His Highest" online, and there was a similar statement there, as well:
If we will only start on the basis of His redemption to do what He commands, then we will find that we can do it. If we fail, it is because we have not yet put into practice what God has placed within us. But a crisis will reveal whether or not we have been putting it into practice.
This morning, my crisis was getting up on time. Later today I will have plenty of other opportunities to believe and obey on the basis of His redemption, and on no other basis.
If I lean on any other reason or basis to "obey Him" then it will fail, since the only one that is of any worth is what is done in faith, and what is done according to the Cross, and according to what He has done to redeem and cleanse and adopt me to Himself.
Glory to God!
